May is Short Story Month, and I’m taking the opportunity to announce I’ll be in two upcoming anthologies. I’m amongst some greats in the erotica canon with these books, so am feeling a little amazed and abashed, as well as super excited!
The Big Book of Submission: 69 Kinky Tales
Edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel
This Cleis Press anthology will be released in July 2014, with my story “Object”, a contemporary BDSM short set in San Francisco. (This is my husband’s favorite short story of mine.) Here’s the teaser for this story which is flash fiction erotica:
Nigel’s girlfriend Mandy has invited him to dinner at the most exclusive restaurant in San Francisco. But did he knock on the wrong door? Where’s Mandy? Who are all these people? And will dinner ever be served?
The complete table of contents has been posted and, as you can see, there are a lot of stories—well, um, sixty-nine to be precise. The call for submissions was for stories of 1200 words maximum, so these will all be pretty short (mine is 1200 words exactly).
The paperback is available for pre-order on Amazon USA and Amazon UK. You can follow the release of the book and associated events (readings, reviews, and such) on Twitter via @submissionbook
UPDATE! The Big Book of Submission is now available!
Valves & Vixens: Steampunk Erotica
Edited by Nicole Gestalt
My story, “One Cheek or Two?” is my first venture into Steampunk (although my Victorian-set novel The Pleasure Device has a sort of Steampunky aspect except with a device that runs on electricity!). This will be my first work to be published by United Kingdom-based House of Erotica. Here’s the blurb for this erotic romance short:
Professor Edward Ockham is trying not to let his attraction for his new assistant Delia get in the way of testing his latest invention, a spanking machine for a girls’ school. Delia hadn’t expected the genius behind Newcastle’s Ockham Steam Works Laboratory to be so damned handsome. Both turn to bad boy Sebastian and his curious gadgets for release of pent-up desires. Will they ever find passion in each other’s arms?
The table of contents includes many new-to-me writers which is always exciting. Nicole Gestalt is not only in Valves & Vixens with me, she’s also in The Big Book of Submission!
For my U.K. readers: you can pre-order the book via the publisher. I’m not sure what the official release date is, but keep checking my homepage for updates.
Nicole Gestalt has her own Call for Submissions page and she will eventually be putting up a new call for Valves & Vixens Book 2.
UPDATE! Valves & Vixens is now available!
Short Story Month: Inspiration
If you want to write a short story during May and feel you need some inspiration, I put together some links to calls for submissions to help inspire you. A call for Viking erotic romance inspires me—I just hope I can find the time!
Looking promising! So how did you feel about UK spelling? Hard to get used to?
(Shhh…I used MS Word’s British English spell check.) It’s not so strange (I lived there for a year), however there is the occasional “oh! I had no idea this word was different!”
We did British spelling in school, but most books I read these days are from the US (kindle and so forth), so now I’m not as used to it–especially the single quotes instead of double for dialog!
