A famous myth rewritten.
A servant and a soldier in Imperial Rome.
A princess and a eunuch in Parthian Ctesiphon.
A noble woman and a Viking raider in Byzantine Constantinople.
A reunion. A discovery. A connection.
Ancient Shorts: An Ancient World Romance Collection is comprised of all five of my Ancient World short stories, each centered on a heterosexual liaison, heat levels ranging from steamy to erotic. Themes include the status of women as political pawns, finding unexpected connections, discovering hope when life seems hopeless.
I am especially pleased to publish “An Unexpected Discovery” and “The Eunuch” together for the first time. These two stories involve the same characters, Roedogune and Arashis. “The Eunuch” is the follow up to “An Unexpected Discovery”, and while the stories can be read as standalones, reading them together provides further resolution to the love story.
This collection includes the following previously published Ancient World erotic romance short stories, appearing in chronological order:
Hot as Hades
Mythological
After living in Hell for four months, Persephone returns home to the mortal realm. But can home truly be home without the man she loves?
“Hot As Hades”, a mythological, light paranormal romantic comedy based on the Persephone myth, first appeared in Naughty Flings: Twelve Naughty Little Romps published by the Naughty Literati, and was later republished in Naughty Phantasia: Eighteen Fabulous Fantasies.
The Promise of Memory
100 CE
A Roman slave finds freedom in her fantasies of a knight in Trajan’s imperial guard — a warrior who evokes memories of a long lost love.
“The Promise of Memory” first appeared in Hot Highlanders and Wild Warriors: Erotic Romance for Women published by Tempted Romance/Cleis Press, then was reissued in Imperial Warriors: Two Scorching Tales of the Roman Empire from Viridium Press.
An Unexpected Discovery
130-138 CE
A Parthian princess searching for the lost throne of her kingdom engages the services of a palace eunuch and discovers a treasure far more precious.
“An Unexpected Discovery” first appeared in Naughty Getaways: Eleven Sultry Stories published by the Naughty Literati. The character of Roedogune is based on an actual historical figure and appears in my Roman Imperial erotica epic, Hadrian and Sabina: A Love Story.
The Eunuch
138 CE
The desire to submit is timeless… In Ancient Parthia, a palace eunuch gives his body in service to a princess. But who is really in control?
“The Eunuch” is the follow-up story to “An Unexpected Discovery”. This flash fiction short first appeared in The Big Book of Submission, Volume 2: 69 Kinky Tales published by Cleis Press.
Protecting Her
860 CE
A Byzantine noblewoman seeking refuge in a monastery loses her heart to an invader when Constantinople is sacked by the Viking Rus.
“Protecting Her” first appeared in Conquests: An Anthology of Smoldering Viking Romance published by Story Ink LLC, and was republished in Imperial Warriors: Two Scorching Tales of the Roman Empire from Viridium Press.

Inspiration for the five stories
History as inspiration for me as a writer.
Read about how I have re-imagined the Persephone myth featured in “Hot As Hades” more than once.
Roman history as inspiration for “The Promise of Memory”.
Read more about the inspiration for “An Unexpected Discovery” and “The Eunuch”: Roedogune, the Parthian throne, and the Parthian Empire.
Read about the story behind the writing of “An Unexpected Discovery” and “The Eunuch”.
Why did I set “Protecting Her” in Byzantine Constantinople?
Reviews for Ancient Shorts
“…the main characters are multidimensional. Kammer does not shy away from assigning hopes and desires to her characters, even amid thorny situations. This complexity does not take away from the beauty of Kammer’s prose.” — Erica, 5 stars on Goodreads!
“Each story in Ancient Shorts features a fully-formed world occupied by living-breathing-wanting human people. From a retelling of Hades and Persephone to lost lovers reunited in Ancient Rome to unexpected tenderness from a barbarian in Constantinople… and beyond, Kammer’s stories seethe with life and longing.” — Fluffy Buffalo, 5 stars on Amazon!
“…a deliciously well written collection of steamy stories about wonderful, brave characters making lemonade from life’s lemons and finding love in the process.” — Riley, 5 stars on Amazon!
“Lots of hot sexy time. Deep emotions and some angst. Pleasurable shorts.” — Urszula, 5 stars on Goodreads!
